Providing valuable advice for thousands of small businesses
The Challenge
PwC Private Business works with over 16,000 private companies across the country to help them solve operational problems and achieve their growth potential.
They were looking to create a standalone app that would be highly useful and practical for their target customer base with the SME sector. This tool was intended to act as an introduction to PwC Private Business, with the aim of channeling users towards further business services.
When PwC realised there was demand for such an app, xDesign was the obvious choice for collaboration.
The Solution
Without an initial concept for the app, we worked from the ground-up to support PwC in defining, designing and building the mobile solution.
The first stage involved running a product definition process with the PwC Private Business team to firstly create a concept for the app and then further define the idea.
The outcome was an app that reminded small businesses of their upcoming liabilities, including PAYE, VAT, Corporation Taxes and Companies House filing, with a series of in-depth interviews with SME owners in order to validate the concept.
We were then able to establish a stand-alone product development team to deliver an MVP for the solution, working closely with PwC’s in-house Product Owner.
Once launched, we coordinated with PwC to build and release multiple updates to both the iOS and Android apps over the course of two years, constantly meeting strict security and compliance standards.
Going Above and Beyond
Within four months of being engaged on the project we had researched, designed and launched a fully-native iOS MVP.
One of the key benefits for the client was getting to market as fast as possible, without competing with priorities in their internal development teams. By taking responsibility for the project, while still working closely with the PwC team, xDesign could ensure every business requirement was met.
The Results
The application was both an internal and external success, reaching thousands of small businesses during the launch week. It continues to support businesses in day-to-day regulatory compliance.
This led to our collaboration being internally recognised as one most effective and innovative routes to new product development across PwC’s global business.
