Simplifying Airport Parking

The Challenge

Edinburgh Airport is Scotland’s busiest transport hub and is responsible for transporting more than 14 million passengers per year to destinations all over the world.

The airport needed to simplify and improve the parking experience for short and long stay passengers. As a digital-first organisation it looked at how it could put that power into the hands of its customers and help them find the best parking option for their needs.

The Solution

Edinburgh Airport’s values are Comfort, Ease and Speed so we created a solution that fit within those values and put customer experience at its heart.

We launched an industry leading Park & Go solution where a parking booth takes a full 360 degree photo of the customer’s car for security and peace of mind - they can rest assured that there was no new damage while they were away. Their keys are kept safe in a locker system attached to a unique QR code that can only be accessed through the customer’s in app login.

We worked closely with the airport to build native iOS and Android apps that give customers the ability to streamline their parking and airport experience; integrating with existing Edinburgh Airport APIs to deliver a personalised service to the end customer with a self serve product.

The application integrated fully into the Edinburgh Airport digital journey and incorporating payments into the app allowed customers to book in advance and pay quickly and effortlessly.

Going Above and Beyond

The airport offered an array of individual parking services but lacked a single, unified, way of displaying those services to customers. We knew that to embody the airport’s values, we would need to find a way to consolidate those services into a simple, user friendly, customer experience.

Putting the customer experience first, allowed us to focus on removing stress and simplifying the process so it integrated with the airport’s digital first approach and provided people with quick and easy access to the parking facilities.

The Results

The app has helped streamline and simplify parking at Edinburgh Airport and has customer experience at its core. It gives users the best parking options for their journey and provides arrival and return instructions alongside a feature review system, to give customers a full overview of the experience before they dive.
